Seeking Justice for Canada’s 500 Missing Native Women: MY RESPONSE

Robert Pickton was charged in December 2003 for the the murder of several aboriginal Canadians.  It is said that violence is greater to aboriginal women, "12.6 percent of Native women reported domestic abuse whereas only 3.5 percent of non-Natives did" (Seeking Justice for Canada’s 500 Missing Native Women article)and the fact that there was a majority of aboriginal woman missing and murdered in Canada shows that there should be something done to prevent it.  Most of the woman found at Pickton"s farm was taken off the streets at Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.  It is sad to hear the numbers of women who have gone missing and murdered in Canada just because they are aboriginal. there is also a place called the highway of tears located between Prince Rupert and Prince George where many aboriginal women go missing all the time and yet there is hardly any media coverage on it.  I think the Justice System needs to realize how serious these crimes are and do something more helpful to prevent these things from happening.
